Illumination Entertainment/Universal’s animated sequel “Minions: The Rise of Gru” will serve as the opening film for the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, with its world premiere on June 13 and North American theaters on July 1.
The film tells the origin story of “The Wicked” Gru, the previous film and “Despicable Me 3” directors Kyle Balda and Brad Ableson.

Steve Carell continues to voice Gru, and Julie Andrews and Russell Brand also return.
Newly joined are Michelle Yeoh, voiced by the highly skilled acupuncturist Master Zhou, and Taraji P. Henson, voiced by Belle Bottom, the leader of the six-member villain.
The villains also include Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo and more.
