Neon has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the psychological thriller “Mothers’ Instinct” starring Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway. The project was announced two years ago and will begin filming on the 25th of this month.
“Mothers’ Instinct” is a remake of the 2018 Belgian film of the same name, with the original director/screenwriter Olivier Masset-Depasse continuing to direct.
The film focuses on housewives in the 1960s, with best friends and neighbors Alice (Jessica Chastain) and Celine (Anne Hathaway) living idyllic traditional lives with manicured lawns, successful husbands and sons of the same age.

After an unfortunate accident, their lives of perfect harmony are suddenly shattered, guilt, suspicion and paranoia tear their sisterhood apart, and a psychological battle of will begins as maternal instinct reveals its dark side.
The original, based on the novel Derrière La Haine by Barbara Abel, won a record 9 Magritte Awards in Belgium, including Best Picture and Best Director.
