Recently, streaming platform Netflix announced that it will restrict password sharing for non-resident users and strictly control the sharing of one account across multiple locations because over 100 million households share accounts, affecting its “ability to invest in great new TV and movies.
Some Canadian Netflix users have received an email telling them that they need to add a “primary location” to their account by the end of February and that users who do not live with relatives, travel frequently or have other residences must log in at least once a month using the wifi set for their primary location to avoid having their account locked out, according to the Canadian news agency.
The new restrictions will apply to Canada, Spain, Portugal and New Zealand, and will be introduced to other countries and territories in the coming months.
