Vicky Krieps stars in the new film ‘Corsage’ Northern America, set for release on December 23, which premiered to critical acclaim at Cannes and will also appear at the Toronto and New York film festivals.
‘Corsage’, directed by Marie Kreutzer (‘Das Fräulein’ ‘Der Boden unter den Füßen’), focuses on the Austrian Empress Elisabeth, who is adored for her beauty and Known for inspiring fashion trends.
But in 1877, Elisabeth celebrated her 40th birthday and had to maintain her public image by lacing her corset tighter and tighter.
Elisabeth’s role runs counter to her intentions and is reduced to a purely performative one, her thirst for knowledge and her passion for life making her increasingly restless in Vienna.
Elisabeth then travels to England and Bavaria to visit old lovers and old friends, seeking the excitement and purpose of her youth.
With the future of strict etiquette duties before her, Elisabeth begins to rebel against her greatly exaggerated image and comes up with a plan to protect her legacy.
