The overall performance of the North American box office last weekend was flat, only half of that during Thanksgiving.
This may be the calm before the storm-“West Side Story”, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “The Matrix Resurrections” will all be released in the coming weeks.
Disney’s “Encanto” won the box office title at $12.74 million the next weekend. It was down 53.2% from its premiere week.
The total box office of “Encanto” in the United States is slightly less than US$58 million, and the total box office worldwide is US$116.1 million.
Before the launch of Disney+, “Encanto” is expected to become the highest-grossing animated film in 2021.
In second place is Sony’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”, which has a box office of 10.35 million U.S. dollars.
Three weeks after its release, the North American box office of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” totaled US$102.2 million, and the film’s global box office totaled US$145.1 million.
