Earlier this year, we learned that Netflix was planning to launch a cheap version of its membership subscription service that would come with ads for subscribers. And for now, it seems that there is more than just the limitation of having ads on this level of membership service.
According to kotaku, Steve Moser, an IOS developer and tech blogger, found text in the app about “restricted offline viewing”. The text is described as follows.
“All plans offer download capabilities except Netflix with ads”
In addition, Netflix apparently wants to ask users questions about “ads”, and it is unclear whether this is an ad-related content that is tailored to their preferences.
“Now, let’s set up your ad experience.” “We just need a few details to make sure you’re able to get the most relevant ads on Netflix, and it’ll be very fast, we promise!”
For now, Netflix declined to comment on the story, but a spokesperson said, “We’re still deciding how we’re going to roll out the cheaper version of ad membership and haven’t made a decision yet, so it’s all speculation.”
