“Only Apparently Real,” a biopic of renowned science fiction writer Philip K. Dick, will be released

A biopic of acclaimed science fiction writer Philip K. Dick (whose work has inspired such films as ‘Blade Runner’, ‘Minority Report’ and ‘The Man in the High Castle’) will be released, titled ‘Only Apparently Real’, based on the biography ‘Only Apparently Real: The World of Philip K. Dick’ written by Dick’s close friend and posthumous keeper, Paul Williams. Paul Williams’ biography ‘Only Apparently Real: The World of Philip K. Dick’, written by Michael Richter and featuring Jon Shestack (‘Air Force One’ ‘Bickford Shmeckler’s Cool Ideas’) and other producers.

Dick’s life is “as surreal and elusive as his novels,” his mind is full of hallucinations, he has been addicted to drugs, attempted suicide, experienced supernatural events, written to the FBI …… and believes he is living in two timelines at the same time: the present and the Roman Empire period.

And “Only Apparently Real” focuses on Dick in the 1970s, when he was going through his fourth divorce, struggling to get off drugs, depleted inspiration and the possibility of being spied on by the U.S. government.

At this point, his house was broken into, the safe was opened and the manuscript was stolen …… but, once again, maybe these things didn’t happen and the break-in never existed.

Shestack said: Dick is a “high-functioning” character, even reading his diary, can not tell whether it is true or false.

‘Only Apparently Real’ will also deal with a tragic event in Dick’s life that he describes: the death of his twin sister Jane as a baby, an event that continues to “reoccur” throughout Dick’s life.

He believed that many of his psychological problems and the ruggedness he encountered were related to her death, including his attachment anxiety.

‘Only Apparently Real’ hopes to start filming this fall in San Rafael, California – where Dick used to live and where that break-in occurred.
