“Operation Mincemeat‎”: Two generations of Mr. Darcy on the same stage

The WWII movie “Operation Mincemeat” starring Colin Firth (“The King’s Speech‎”) and Matthew Macfadyen (“Ripper Street”) opens in the UK on April 15 and is due to hit Netflix on May 11. Tomatoes are 94% fresh (18 reviews).

Interestingly, audiences will see two generations of Mr. Darcy on the same stage in “Operation Mincemeat‎”.

Colin Firth played Mr. Darcy in the 1995 BBC miniseries “Pride & Prejudice” and Macfadyen played Mr. Darcy in the 2004 film version of “Pride & Prejudice”, both for their roles in Jane Austen’s novel. A famous “Dream Lover” is well known to the audience.

This co-starring “Operation Mincemeat‎” can really be said to be a “dream linkage”!

The film is based on a real intelligence campaign during World War II called “Project Meat”: In 1943, the Allies decided to fight Nazi Germany’s domination of the occupied territories.

Intelligence officers Ewen (Colin Firth) and Charles (Macfadyen) come up with a plan to mislead the Germans by “delivering” a corpse with false information into the hands of the Germans, so that the Germans mistakenly believe that the Allies are going to be in Greece. The plan was successfully implemented, and the Allies successfully landed on Sicily, annihilating nearly 200,000 German troops, laying a solid foundation for victory in the European battlefield.\
