Pop diva Britney Spears regains her freedom after 13 years

According to media reports, on November 12 local time, the Los Angeles Superior Court ruled to terminate the legal supervision of singer Britney Spears for nearly 14 years.

The judge announced at the hearing on Friday: “The court finds and determines that the conservatorship of the person and the Estate of Britney Jean Spears is no longer required.”

Britney Spears tweeted excitedly after the hearing: “Good God, I love my fans so much…it’s crazy!!!” And shared a video of fans celebrating outside the court.

In 2008, Britney Spears was maliciously harassed by paparazzi and faced obvious mental health problems.

The court deprived her of the right to make basic decisions about finances, career and personal life.

Since then, Britney Spears has been living and working under the custody of his father, Jamie Spears.

Throughout the supervision period, the elder Spears controlled his daughter’s life and supervised all financial and business decisions related to her millions of assets.

Guardianship is usually set up for people who are frail and unable to make their own decisions (especially those with dementia).

But in Spears’ case, the court established an indefinite guardianship while she continued to make great achievements in her career.

In November last year, Britney Spears requested the removal of his father’s custody, but it was unsuccessful.

For a year, Britney Spears publicly accused her father of restricting her freedom, and at the hearing called the guardianship “abusive” and believed that all her guardians should go to jail.

On September 29, 2021, Britney Spears’ custody hearing won a substantial victory.

Britney’s father’s guardian status was removed and he no longer served as her estate administrator.

It is estimated that Britney Spears’ estate is worth between US$50 million and US$60 million at the end of her supervision period.

The lawyer for Britney Spears said that the wealth had been squandered due to her father’s mismanagement.
