Rawson Marshall Thurber’s new project will be a live-action ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ film

Rawson Marshall Thurber, director of Netflix’s smash hit “Red Notice,” has been tapped to turn Hasbro’s beloved role-playing board game “Dungeons & Dragons” into a live-action series.

According to Deadline, Rawson Marshall Thurber has been recruited as creative director for eOne’s upcoming Dungeons & Dragons series.

In addition to executive shooting of the hour-long show, he also signed a deal to write and direct the pilot episode.

The series is expected to be the cornerstone of the Dungeons & Dragons screen universe, including scripted and unscripted shows.

“We don’t want it to be just a single show, so we’re building out a multi-pronged approach to TV programming, some scripted and unscripted, and we hope to push that into the next market.” Michael Lombardo, eOne’s president of global television, said of the company’s plans in an interview with Deadline last November.

The Dungeons & Dragons project, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, is said to have attracted interest from multiple buyers, possibly including Netflix.

The two previously enjoyed working together on Red Notice, Netflix’s most-watched film of all time. Netflix has since renewed the film’s original cast for two sequels.

eOne previously hired John Wick writer Derek Kolstad to develop the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.

The project is said to be one of several spin-offs from eOne’s take on the movie franchise. Rawson Marshall Thurber responded to the report on Twitter.
