In 2020, Disney announced that it will shoot a prequel film “The Lion King II”, which will be the real animal version of “The Lion King.”
Recently, Barry Jenkins confirmed to the media that the film will focus on the story of Mufasa and Scar when they were young, and will explain why Scar is so obsessed with Mufasa being the King of the Pride Stone.
Although the “Real Beast Edition” “The Lion King” released in 2019 was rated at two levels, it earned $543 million at the box office in North America, ranking 12th in film history. Its global box office of $1.662 billion was the eighth in film history. Of course, Disney, who has made a lot of money, has to arrange a sequel.
In addition to director Barry Jenkins, “The Lion King” writer Jeff Nathanson, who also wrote “Catch Me If You Can” and “Happy Endings,” returns to write the script.
Kelvin Harrison Jr. will voice the younger version of Scar and Aaron Pierre will voice the younger version of Mufasa.
No specific date has been announced for the film.
