Several Hollywood companies suspend the release of new films in Russia

Disney, Warner, and Sony have successively announced that they will suspend the release of new films in Russian theaters due to the situation in Russia and Ukraine.

Disney has suspended Pixar’s new film “Turning Red” (originally scheduled for March 10), saying that it will make decisions based on changes in the situation in the future, and will work with partner NGOs to help refugees.

Subsequently, Warner Bros. also announced the temporary suspension of “The Batman”‘s theatrical release in Russia. The film was originally scheduled for March 3, and the launch is imminent, and the decision to suspend is also the latest.

Until last Sunday local time, Warner Bros. had planned to release it, but the situation changed and so did the decision.

Warner said in a statement that it will continue to monitor the situation and “hope that this tragedy will be resolved quickly and peacefully.”

Since then, Sony has also announced the suspension of the release of new films including “Mobius” in Russia, which was originally scheduled for March 24.

“Our thoughts are with those affected and hope that this crisis will be resolved quickly,” Sony said in a statement.

THR and other media reported that over the weekend Hollywood studios had secret talks about whether to continue showing films in Russia.
