Sofia Coppola will direct a biopic of Priscilla Presley, ‘Priscilla’, featuring Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley

Sofia Coppola has written and will direct a forthcoming biopic about Priscilla Presley, as Variety reports. Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) and Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) are slated to star in the project, which is based on Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me.

Per a Deadline source, Spaeny was Coppola’s first choice to portray Priscilla, while “Euphoria” star Elordi auditioned for the role of Elvis.

It’s set to shoot in Toronto later this year, eventually arriving on theater screens in the United States via A24.

The film marks Oscar winner Coppola’s first feature since “On the Rocks” starring Rashida Jones and longtime collaborator Bill Murray. Coppola also produces the film, along with Fremantle Company, American Zoetrope, and Sony’s Stage 6 Films will finance the film. Production starts in Toronto this fall.

“Priscilla” is the latest musical biopic in the works based on the life and death of Elvis. Actor Butler explained earlier this year that transforming into the iconic singer led to his body shutting down post-production.

Hot off of Butler’s turn as the King of Rock ‘n Roll for Baz Luhrmann’s mind-bending biopic “Elvis,” Jacob Elordi will play the “Jailhouse Rock” crooner for A24 drama “Priscilla.”

Born Priscilla Ann Wagner in 1945, she was 14 when she met the then-24-year-old star during his military service in Germany. The pair married at Las Vegas’ Aladdin Hotel in 1967, and had one daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.

Both Priscilla and Lisa Marie have remained heavily involved with the singer’s estate since his death in 1977.
