Paramount and Sega’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” film made $23 million to $26 million on Friday and could top $60 million in its opening weekend, according to Deadline.
That figure is higher than the $58 million of the series’ predecessor, and with the box office outside the U.S., “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” may have crossed the $100 million mark globally.
Last week, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” topped the box office in the UK, France, Australia, Spain and Germany.
The film that preceded “Sonic the Hedgehog” was an unexpected success, and it became the highest-grossing game adaptation of all time in the United States.
Paramount and Sega also revealed some time ago that “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and a live-action series have entered the production stage.
