Netflix hit ‘Squid Game’ became the first non-English language series ever to be nominated for a major award in the Best Drama category at the Emmy Awards.
The series received a total of 14 nominations for this year’s Emmy, including Best Drama Series, lead actor Jung-jae Lee, supporting actress Hoyeon Jung, supporting actors Hae-soo Park and Yeong-su Oh, and guest star Yoo-mi Lee.
Prior to this year, no non-English language series had been nominated for major awards at the Primetime Emmy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, or Golden Globes, and ‘Squid Game’ was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Group Drama and a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series.
For individual awards, Jung-jae Lee and Hoyeon Jung took home the Actors Guild Award for Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Series.
