“The Triplets of Belleville” director Sylvain Chomet is back in animation, and his new film “The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol” has been announced for completion in 2024.
Sony Classics has won the distribution rights of the film in multiple locations: Northern America, Latin America, Scandinavia, the Middle East, Israel, India, Italy, and the rights to air and ship flights around the world. Stills and video introductions are also exposed.
The English-language film “The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol” features the famous French writer, playwright and filmmaker Marcel Pagnol.
It tells that in 1955, at the age of 60, Pagnol was invited by the editor-in-chief of “ELLE” magazine to write a column about his childhood.
Pagnol wanted to seize this opportunity to return to the foundation of his art: writing.
Realizing that his memory was failing, and deeply disappointed by the response to his two most recent plays, he began to doubt his ability to continue working on them.
At this moment, little Marcel, the younger version of himself, appeared like magic.
Two Pagnols, one old and one young, will examine his extraordinary life together and relive his most cherished encounters and memories.
“The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol” focuses on a half-century journey across France, from Paris to Pagnol’s hometown of Provence, and 50 years of glorious history that has shaped our modern society.
Chomet also revealed that the film is about the glory of cinema, the history of the classics, and the beginning of the sound film, “Pagnol is the link between film, literature and theater.”
The film is currently in production and is scheduled for completion in 2024.
