The ratings for this year’s Academy Awards show a rebound from last year (of course, there is no real data on the impact of Will Smith and Chris Rock’s conflict on Oscar ratings).
Nielsen’s rapid U.S. data shows that: ABC’s Oscar broadcast attracted 13.73 million viewers, with a 18-49 viewer rating of 2.9, ending the year-on-year decline in the awards ceremony’s ratings, and was 32% higher than last year’s awards ceremony viewership, 18- 49 ratings were 37% higher.
(Update: Nielsen then released timezone-adjusted figures for the awards show: 15.36 million viewers, 18-49 viewership 3.2, up 56 percent and 68 percent, respectively, from last year.)
However, last year’s awards ceremony was scaled down due to the epidemic, and this year’s Oscar ratings are still the second-to-last in history. From 2020 to the mid-1970s, when Nielsen began to count the ratings of the Oscars, the number of Oscar viewers never dropped. over 20 million.
This data has not been adjusted for different national time zones, etc., and does not include figures for viewing after 11 p.m. ET and household media media.
Adjusted figures are expected to be released shortly, usually higher than the first data.
