Directed by George Miller (‘Mad Max’) and starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, the fantasy romantic comedy ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ is out with word of mouth.
‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ has a freshness of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, an average score of 58 on MTC and a score of 5.9 on IMDB.
The film was screened in Cannes in May and will be released in Northern America on August 26.
THR: Miller’s work weakens the feminist elements of Byatt’s original novel, preferring to try to explore the magic of cinematic narrative. However, the presence of the plot in the film is very low, which somewhat undermines the original plan of exploration.
BBC: The fundamental problem is that the anecdotes of the elves in the film are not fascinating enough. While there are some wonderful little details dotted throughout, there are no compelling characters or film effects.
IndieWire: What George Miller creates from a small bar is more “cinematic” than what many contemporary directors create from a galaxy far, far away. At the same time, he balances the subtle souls of two characters.
