In this weekend’s U.S. box office battle, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Elvis’ tied with $30.5 million, pushing the $26.4 million ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ into third place.
For ‘Elvis’, which is aimed at an older audience, this was a good debut at the box office. And for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which has been in theaters for five weeks, this is a rare performance in history.
According to statistics, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ reached $521 million at the U.S. domestic box office, and the global box office exceeded $1 billion, leaping to become the highest-grossing movie of 2022, and the first movie to break $1 billion at the box office since last year’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.
Fourth place this week went to Ethan Hawke’s horror film ‘The Black Phone’, which grossed $23.3 million in its opening weekend and $13.4 million overseas, bringing its total to $35.8 million. For its production cost of $1800 is an ideal result.
‘Lightyear’ also managed to be in the top five this week. Northern America currently grossed $88 million and $152.4 million worldwide.
