“Top Gun: Maverick” starring Tom Cruise was a big hit at the box office as expected, topping Northern America’s three-day estimate of $124 million over the weekend.
Four days (Death Day holiday) is estimated at $151 million, making it the second-highest opening of the season, behind “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” at $153 million.
The film also became Tom Cruise’s first Northern America film to exceed 100 million drawings in his career, and it is the third film to exceed 100 million drawings this year after “The Batman” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.
For producer Jerry Bruckheimer, “Top Gun: Maverick”‘s $124 million career was the runner-up, followed by 2006’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” with $135 million, and 2007’s $135 million. $114.7 million for “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” (Disney insists the film grossed $153 million over four days).
Thirty-six years ago, “Top Gun” was released in Northern America on May 16, with a box office of $8.193 million, a total of $180 million in Northern America and a total of $357 million worldwide.
With current trends, “Top Gun: Maverick” is definitely doubling.
