“Dune” can be said to be one of the most anticipated movies in the second half of this year. I hope that this movie that combines science fiction and fantasy elements will be finalized as soon as possible.
Some North American film critics even called the film “Lord of the Rings in space”.
However, the duration of “Dune” is indeed not as long as that of “The Lord of the Rings” (the shortest theatrical version of the trilogy is also 179 minutes).
Today’s “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve confirmed that the duration of the film will be 155 minutes (2 hours and 35 minutes).
Denis Villeneuve also said that there are a lot of materials that have not been cut into the theater version at all.

“If I open up with the editor, we should be able to make a movie for several hours, because I really made a lot of content. But the final version is what it looks like in the theater. I have never got a director for my film. Edited version.”

“Dune” will become Denis Villeneuve’s second longest film.
The first place is “Blade Runner 2049” (164 minutes), and the third place is “Prisoners” (153 minutes).
His version of “Dune” is 20 minutes longer than David Lynch’s 1984 version.

The film will be screened in US theaters on October 22, and will be launched simultaneously on HBO Max.
Denis Villeneuve once again expressed his dissatisfaction with the “simultaneous launch”, thinking that watching “Dune” at home is equivalent to “driving a speedboat in a bathtub.”
