The Woman King’, an epic action film from Sony TriStar Pictures based on the true historical story of Africa’s strongest all-women army, has released its first official poster and will be released in Northern America on September 16, 2022.
The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and stars Viola Davis in the lead role of Lashana Lynch, John Boyega, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and others.
The poster released, with orange and gold as the main color, and General Nanisca’s profile to form a sharp contrast, very visual impact.
Viola Davis expression firm, eyes like a torch, as an enraged lioness, robust muscles hidden endless explosive power. And the war knife on her shoulder is a sharp, reflecting the female warriors ready to go.
This is a sign that General Nanisca will shoulder the heavy responsibility to lead Africa’s strongest all-women legion to fight bravely, vowing to defend the home to the end!
It is reported that the film is based on the true story of the Dahomey Kingdom of the west coast of Africa in the 19th century all-women legion. Under the leadership of General Nanisca, they fought bravely and defiantly against the European invaders with flesh and blood.
The Woman King’ focuses on this little-known history, and the characterization of the female Royal Guards in ‘Black Panther’ is also based on this special women’s army.
Viola Davis said in an interview that the film was a new challenge for herself and a profound shaping and excavation of the African-American female community: “I wanted to show the gifts and talents of African-American women through the work and bring back a little-known part of our history to life.”
To present the strong physique of her character, the 56-year-old trained weekly for intense strength and action scenes.
During filming, she insisted on completing 96% of the action scenes herself, even though injuries continued to cause torn ACLs.
Director Gina Prince-Bythewood said, “I wanted to make sure the film was epic, exciting, truly magnificent and touching.”
She praised Viola Davis for her renewed awareness of the power of women both on and off screen, and commented, “When I received the script, Viola was attached to it. In her space, in her orbit, you can feel how strong and good she is. She can make people around her better.”
‘The Woman King’ will be released in Northern America on September 16, 2022.
