According to media reports, director Francis Lawrence will team up with production companies New Republic Pictures and Electric Shepherd Productions to bring Philip K. Dick’s dystopian science fiction “Vulcan’s Hammer” onto the screen.
Philip K. Dick (1928-1982) is a popular Hollywood science fiction writer. Many of his works have been adapted into movies.
Such as Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner”, two editions of “Total Recall”, Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report” and Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049”.
“Vulcan’s Hammer” was written in 1960.
The author fictionalizes a totalitarian world: citizens are intimidated by hammerhead robots, and freedom becomes a ridiculous joke.
After a devastating world war, 70 countries on earth formed an alliance-the Unity Party.
They handed over the power of global governance to the Vulcan artificial intelligence system, which uses algorithms to determine the policies implemented by the alliance.
But after the Vulcan system was attacked and an agent was murdered, the head of the alliance William Barris was ordered to solve the mystery.
He wants to find out who, or what, wants to destroy the system he has worked hard for all his life.
Francis Lawrence has directed the last three films in the popular “The Hunger Games” series, and his global box office for the series exceeded $2.2 billion.
Other masterpieces include “Constantine”, “I Am Legend” and “Water for Elephants”.
