Warner will produce a new version of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ movie, set Kenya Barris (‘The Witch’ ‘Black-ish’) as director and writer, the story will be is a reimagining of the modern version.
Last year New Line cinema also announced the development of a new version of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ film, directed by Nicole Caso (‘Watchmen’ ‘Westworld’) and produced by Marty Bowen & Wyck Godfrey (‘First Man’ ‘The Maze Runner’ series) and Marc Platt (‘La La Land’ ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’) produced.
The fairy tale series ‘The Wizard of Oz’ by American children’s author Lyman Frank Baum was published in 1900 and received an enthusiastic response, and Baum has since created 13 more spin-off books.
The series, which has been made into a musical and a movie several times, follows the adventures of farm girl Dorothy and her pet dog Toto in magical Oz after being swept away from their Kansas home by a tornado.
The 1939 film, starring Judy Garland, Frank Morgan and Ray Bolger, received several Oscar nominations and took home awards for Best Score and Original Song.
