Jesse Eisenberg’s debut film “When You Finish Saving The World” was selected for the International Critics Week in the parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival, and will serve as the opening film of the section (held from May 18th to 26th this year).

Based on Eisenberg’s audiobook of the same name, the story focuses on a mother and son who cannot understand each other’s values.
High school student Ziggy performs original folk-rock songs in his bedroom & home studio for his adoring internet fans, perplexing his mother Evelyn, who runs a domestic violence survivors’ shelter.
Ziggy is busy making his music less casual and more political in order to impress his social classmate Laila.
Meanwhile, Evelyn meets Angie and her teenage son Kyle, who are seeking refuge in her shelter.
By observing the mother and son, she discovers the missing spiritual bond between herself and Ziggy, and decides to go against her instincts and see Kyle as her own.
