Word of mouth is super low! “The Gray Man” Rotten Tomatoes is only 49% fresh

Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling starring in the Russo Brothers-directed action blockbuster ‘The Gray Man’ has been released from the press.

The media criticized the film for its wasted star cast, full of clichés and the Russo brothers’ lack of standards. The film has been released in select theaters on July 15 and will be available on Netflix on July 22.

‘The Gray Man’ is based on the novel of the same name by Mark Greaney and focuses on Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), a former CIA spy and freelance assassin who is being hunted around the world by former CIA colleague Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans).

‘The Gray Man’ is said to be the most expensive film Netflix has produced to date, with a reported production cost of more than $200 million in an attempt to create a ‘James Bond’-level spy film series.

Media commentary excerpts.

‘Variety’: the most exciting original action film Netflix has released since ‘Bright’ (the 2017 film starring Will Smith).

‘Entertainment Weekly’: has hilarious violence, with characters who are articulate and occasionally funny.

‘USA Today’: This snazzy and flashy film satirizes secret agent movies, and there are worse things than watching the evil Chris Evans chase down the High Command for two hours.

‘Chicago Sun-Times’: Bloated, pompous, brain-dead Netflix actioner ‘The Gray Man’ is a frustratingly formulaic production that wastes the talents of the Russo brothers and a first-rate cast and completely wastes 2 hours and 2 minutes of your time.

‘The Globe and Mail’ opined, “The people who made this movie knew what a good thriller could do for audiences, but they weren’t able to make it.”

IGN: The film wastes its all-star cast and doesn’t give the actors much room to play while letting them tell wisecracks. Although generally watchable, it is visually and emotionally shallow.
