Short press reviews of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ are excerpted below (scores are marked from the MTC website)
Good review:
‘Entertainment Weekly’ (83 points):At 120 minutes long – a blink of an eye in Marvel’s time – this Ant-Man is smart enough to be funny. After all, who better to know that even small scale can win benefits?
CNET (72 points):Welcome back, the tiny superhero. ant-Man’s main superpower is Paul Rudd’s oversized charisma, and his main weakness is that everyone is disparaging him – even the creators of his own movies.
The Wrap:The movie offers immediate and long-term threats, is OK for a Solo movie, and is a satisfying tease of where the MCU is headed next.
Medium Rating:
RogerEbert.com (63 points):Is this a must-see movie? Not really. But the middle hour is fun, and that kind of lightheartedness is the preserve of ‘Ant-Man’.
SlashFilm (60 points): All in all, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ is an interesting entry in the Marvel Universe, finally starting to feel like the “new saga” is going somewhere interesting.
Poor Reviews
CNN: ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ works on one key level: portraying Kang the Conqueror as a truly powerful and worthy villain. However, the film lacks due to its depth of inner world, as well as all other important aspects.
Associated Press:Jonathan Majors (Kang the Conqueror) is indeed unsettling and fascinating. But Kang seems like a mismatched foe for an Ant-Mansolo film, and the result is ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ tries to show too much.
The Daily Telegraph (40 points):For a series in need of an update, this movie is by no means a huge leap forward.
The Globe and Mail (23 points):The whole movie presents a cheap CGI feel and looks like it was shot with a first generation iPhone. The aesthetic emptiness is soul destroying.
