“WeCrashed” Review: A true adaptation, the best representation of the American dream

Apple’s streaming TV series “WeCrashed” about the shared office company WeWork has recently aired.

Playing Adam Neumann and Rebekah Neumann are Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, respectively.

With just these two leads, I feel like the real Adam and the real Rebekah should be giggling at home.

Recently, there has been a wave of true story adaptations in the American TV industry, including “The Dropout‎”, “Joe vs. Carole‎” and “Inventing Anna” that have been talked about before, plus “WeCrashed”.

In fact, these stories have many similarities. As true stories, they have aroused heated discussions in the United States and even the world at the beginning of their dissemination. At that time, some stories even had more than one project.

But by the time the TV series are actually filmed, the “15-minute popularity” of these stories has long since passed. The audience found that as real events, these stories are amazingly unbelievable, but as “story”, especially everyone The story, which is already well understood in detail, seems a bit boring.

WeWork’s story must be familiar to everyone.

In a way, it is the best representation of the “American Dream”.

An Israeli young man who was about to be deported went to the United States alone, started his own business, and earned tens of billions of dollars in a few years.

Adam Neumann is a top salesman who would probably be quite successful without WeWork. But his success has been built on a slew of WeWork employees being exploited and a slew of investments that have yet to roll out.

And his Jewish circle and his wife Rebekah, who is close to the upper circle, are necessary factors for his success.

I said before that Adam Neumann of WeWork is a lot like Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos.

All they do is fake it till you make it, and they all put “change the world” in their mouths.

But the final results of the two men were very different.

Adam Neumann left with a golden parachute worth tens of billions of dollars, enough for his family to live a prosperous life for generations.

And Elizabeth Holmes is a piece of chicken feathers, facing the danger of jail.

This of course makes sense. After all, no matter how big the real estate bubble is like WeWork, it is just a matter of money.

But like Theranos, who has no technology but is doing blood tests to see a doctor, it can be a matter of human life.

But speaking, Adam Neumann is at least a “normal person”, whether it is the image of the two people in the previous media description or the image of the two people in the two dramas now.

Although full of the temperament of a cult leader, in order to become rich and to satisfy his great ambition, his motives for doing things are still understandable.

But Elizabeth Holmes gives people a strong sense of “anti-social personality”. She doesn’t care about making jokes about other people’s health and will use her female identity. It seems that the purpose is not money, but an illusory image. The ideal self who “understands science, can invent, and can be a CEO”.

So when watching “The Dropout‎,” the audience was pretty cool when they watched the second half of Theranos’ house of cards collapse step by step.

On the other hand, “WeCrashed” feels less black and white.

The “WeCrashed” story is not the point, it’s basically a collection of WeWork’s various anecdotes over the years.

But the role of “WeCrashed” is the focus, especially Anne Hathaway’s Rebekah.

In order to play Rebekah, Anne Hathaway deliberately lowered her voice, dismissing the kind of typical white privileged woman who is superficial, insecure, ignoring her good background, and mistaken for her rather comfortable life as the result of her own efforts Performed perfectly.

Rebekah Neumann’s lack of comprehensive awareness, that hypocrisy, that empty-headed but superior feeling was precisely captured.

Looking at this character really makes me roll my eyes.

On the other hand, “WeCrashed” also brings out another side of the character: her intense insecurities.

In the play, Rebekah’s cousin Gwyneth Paltrow does not appear, but her name appears many times, and every time it can be seen from Rebekah’s expression, this beautiful big star cousin probably makes the average-looking Rebekah feel that he lives in the shadows.

Anne Hathaway said she hadn’t spoken to Gwyneth Patrow about her role as Rebekah, because “if someone wanted to play me, it would make me feel rude if she talked to my cousin.”

Jared Leto’s Adam Neumann also captures the essence, with a similar accent and voice.

What’s special about “WeCrashed” is that the relationship between Adam and Rebekah makes both characters more three-dimensional, which is a part of all previous media stories that have been lacking.

Although both of them are generally annoying, these two are a super pair.

So in general, the focus of this show is on the characters, and the story is actually nothing unexpected, especially for viewers like me who have seen a lot of reports and documentaries before.

Several TV dramas adapted from real stories got together, and it was really a bit of aesthetic fatigue to watch.

I hope that after this trend passes, there will be some really creative stories.
