An official trailer for the psychological thriller ‘Nocebo’ starring Eva Green and Mark Strong has been released, hitting theaters in Northern America on November 4.
“Allow me in, and you will be free.” These are the chilling words spoken by a mysterious nanny (Chai Fonacier) who upends the life of a fashion designer (Eva Green) recovering from an unknown illness in the trailer for filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan’s “Nocebo.”
The film’s two-minute trailer does a great job establishing an eerie atmosphere without revealing too much. While it is quite apparent that Green’s character is still in recovery from whatever has stricken her, much to the worry of her husband (Mark Strong), Fonacier’s sudden entrance into their lives goes unexplained.
She merely shows up at the family’s home and says, “I’m here to help you.” What promises to unfold is a helping of horror and thrills of the highest psychological order.
Finnegan is back behind the director’s chair for the first time since 2019 when he released the uncanny “Vivarium,” which found Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg as a young couple trapped within a hellish suburban labyrinth.
Finnegan’s first feature was “Without Name,” released in 2016, and featured an ancient forest that induces a developer to lose all sense of reason. If his first two features are any indication, “Nocebo” may also feature a landscape with a mind all of its own.
In recent years, Green, perhaps best known for her role in Bernardo Bertolucci’s 2003 “The Dreamers” (2003), has starred in the critically acclaimed TV show “Penny Dreadful” and three Tim Burton films, with “Dumbo” (2019) being the latest.
Meanwhile, Strong has recently starred in DC’s “Shazam” and Disney’s “Cruella” (2019).
